| Your thoughts On L.Gowan:: | i've been a fan since he entered Styx, being a die-hard Styx Fan. After I heard Larry was joining I looked him up and a friend burned no Kilt Tonight and some random songs (and,yes I know i should have bought it but i couldn't find a place to buy em). I have completely wworn out the 2 CD's and am currently combing stores to find Larry wherewver I can. i have now seen 3 Styx concerts with Larry and have (obviously) bought any CD'S or DVD's of Styx and I love Styx with Larry in it. If anyone knows anyplace that I can buy any Larry Gowan CD's, PLEASE let me know! Even Though While I have been a fan for a very short I still love him as a songwriter, singer, pianist, guitarist, musician, etc., etc.... James "J.Y." Young has had competion in him being my favorite musician for a VERY long while. I have to choose wether I want my concert tickets to be in front of Larry or JY....Larry won 2 of 3...not bad!!

| Your thoughts On L.Gowan:: | Lawrence is one of the most talented musicians/songwriters out there. He can play any style and do it well. (Being a classically trained musician myself, that is what impresses me most!) I was thrilled when Larry joined one of my favorite bands, Styx. He is the only person on the planet who could have adequately filled and then outgrown the very large shoes that were open with the band at the time... Getting to (finally) see him in concert twice in the last month, as well as meet him at both shows, changed my opinion even more. Not only is Lawrence a wonderful musician, he is a really nice guy, with just the right amount of crazy tossed in for fun! Gotta love him!

Still, Gowan is not famous in Argentina, where I live, so years went by and I never knew who was the person behind the voice of that beautiful song. I happened to find out these days, after having managed by pure chance to see the videoclip. And believe me, I´m still shaking! It was not only the voice, but the man... for God´s sake he is SO hot!! I fell in love, right there, on the spot. The sexy look in his eyes and the delicious melody and lyrics of moonlight desires were enough to drive me crazy. I have started looking for information, pictures and listening to more songs since that day. I WANT MORE OF LAWRENCE GOWAN! It reminds me of my younger days and everytime I listen to it I sing along. It keeps me young. Keep up the great work Lawrence. We all need music in our lives. I fell in love with Gowan at a very young age! When I heard "Victory" and "Keep up the Fight" way back in the early 80's, I fell in love with his voice. After Strange Animal was released, I started seeing videos and started attending concerts. It was then that I fell in love with the Artist and wonderful human being Lawrence Gowan is. I even handcrafted my own red cardboard "G" that I made into an earring to wear to a concert. I can't even count the number of times I have seen Lawrence in concert, with my parents (in the early years!!) and more recently (the past 10 years) with my husband while we were dating. I saw Gowan perform for the first time when I was about 13 at the Ontario Place Forum, in Toronto, (when it was the FREE Concert revolving stage open air Forum). I had the biggest crush on this man (and still do). I used to have a huge poster of him OVER my bed!! I have been fortunate to have met him and his brother, Terry, on a few occasions. I would love to forward some of my pictures to you. I have a few concert t-shirts that are even affectionately signed by him. I have most of his videos on VHS tape as well as an interview he did on Toronto Rocks with John Major from CHUM. I was just singing along, to "All the Lovers", while in my own kitchen now (not my mom's anymore)...and this many years later, and married, I still adore him and his music. He remains my first "true love", haha!! |

| Your thoughts On L.Gowan:: | It was the spring of 1969. I was in grade 7 as St. Barbara's school in Scarborough Ontario.
During recess out in the school yard, on the handball court (a brick wall and section of pavement with lines painted for markers) I was playing some serious handball using a well worn tennis ball. Having lost a game, standing at the side of the court near one of the school entrances, a friend came up to me and said "do you want to go up to the second floor and listen to Gowan play piano"? I quickly declined stating I was waiting for the end of the next game and brushed him off. I had heard that Larry was an excellent piano player. My friend persisted saying I should come up and listen. Again, with thoughts of Bach or some another ancient music, I declined but finally gave in and went to the second floor where a piano was in one of the classrooms. A group of about eight kids had gathered listening to hear Larry play. As we rounded the corner to the classroom I could hear the piano being played and as I had suspected it was something classical. I arrived in the classroom, stepped in and leaned on the door which was about two feet away from the piano where Larry was finishing up some piece I didn't recognize. A couple of the students made requests for music. Larry said "how about this one" and proceeded to roll into the keyboards of "Lady Madonna" by the Beatles. I stood and watched in amazement as he began singing the lyrics while playing the keyboard. I felt a shrill go through me thinking I was seeing Paul McCartney. I can still see him playing that today vividly in my mind, as he belted out the lyrics "Lady Madonna children at your breast... We both went to Neil McNeil High School and I had the opportunity to see Larry play in the school band which was world renowned and toured each year to places like London, Japan, etc. After high school I saw Larry numerous times at various Toronto clubs playing with Rhinegold which featured one of the best drummers I have ever seen, also from Neil McNeil named Danny Bourne. The guys were always eager to talk to old school friends. I don't know why Dan never made it big time. After Larry's solo career took off you would still occasionally see him at St. Thomas Moore Church on Sundays. By the way Larry, regarding that dispute we had about who was sitting where in the hockey dressing room, that one year we played together (bantam or minor midget when they combined two age groups), it was my spot, you left it for a minute, I arrived and took it. Keep on rockin Larry, don't let those roads "wear down your shoes"! |

| Your thoughts On L.Gowan:: | I saw Gowan in concert at the Vancouver show of the "Great Dirty World" tour back in 1987. If I remember correctly, The Spoons were the opening act. The acoustics were awesome and Gowan put on a hell of a show. I remember him joking around and playing a piano solo of the Maple Leaf Rag, and interacting with some of the fans in the forward rows. Then, of course the crowd went absolutely nuts when he closed off with Strange Animal. =) |

| Your thoughts On L.Gowan:: | I got to see Gowan at a bar called "The Attic" in Halifax. It was about two years ago and I was thrilled. Gowan's music has been a part of the soundtrack of my life as a child from the 80's. His music was used many times on the Degrassi movie "School's Out" soundtrack which was just perfect (remember the sex scene with "Moonlight Desires"?) Anyway after the show, (which was fabulous) I approached Larry to express my excitement. He shook my hand and smiled this cute smile to show his appreciation. | Your thoughts On L.Gowan:: | I can remember my sister, her friends and I skipping an afternoon of school to attend a free concert at LAndsdowne Park in Ottawa.It was there that I heard one of his first songs -Oceania. It still ranks in my top 10 favorites.
My other fond Gowan concert memory is when he played a small restaurant in Kingston and I got him to sign my engagement photo- It was the only paper I had that night!!! |

| Your thoughts On L.Gowan:: | I am so pleased that the rest of the world finaly gets to see Larry. What a pleasure it has been over the years to watch his career grow. I just wish there was some way to get some footage, and audio from the Rhinegold days. They used to play around southern Ontario, and we would follow them from bar to bar. We just couldnt get enough. What a shame they couldnt stick together as a band. I remember the rumours when Klatu recorded "Calling occupants". The media was sure that Klatu was the Beatles back together under an assumed name. All us Rhinegold fans when Larry and the boys played "Calling occupants", were sure they were Klatu. We were both wrong, but it was a testement to Rhinegold, that they played cover songs, better than the original bands. And if people think that Lawrence is acrobatic on stage now, you should have seen him in his early twenties...unbelievable!!!
The main reason that I am writing here is that if anyone has any access to the old Rhinegold material, I would love to get my hands on a copy....especially Rasputin. Anyway, nice to see so many fans, and congrats to Larry. |

I even got a couple of them signed by him! I thought it was really nice that he would bother to do that! I lost touch with his music when I returned home to Singapore in 1990 & am amazed to see the distance he's gone! Cool!

| Your thoughts On L.Gowan:: | When I lived in Niagara Falls in '78, he WOWed me in Rhinegold, and I tore all over Niagara Falls, TO, Guelph areas to watch "Dr. Starlight and the Watchmaker". Couldn't get enough! Sometimes I'd drive from the Falls to TO every night to catch them at The Underground, or The Gaslight (even caught them there for a New Year's Eve event). It wasn't unusual for me to show up Larry's Hideaway a couple of times a week when they were playing there, either.
Then he started putting out albums and, other than if I could have seen his shows (I was living in Florida then), I couldn't have been happier. Bought each album as it came out, then doubled up with cassette tapes. Now it's CD's. PLEASE don't let it stop! Now that he's with Styx, and the airwaves are full of him again, I'm going to have to fudget my budget to get everything he's been doing with them (as well as the few things I missed over the years - especially while I've been sick the last 10 years!) His talent has taken me out of depths of depression, given me joy when I've been sad, and kept me happy when I've been in good spirits too! And all this stuff about him on the internet! My Gosh! I'm a newbie, but already thinking of building a Gowan site of my own! heard. I love his music and he is an excellent keyboardist and singer. I was very excited when I found out he joined by all-time favorite band-- STYX. Although I've never seen him as a solo act I did see STYX twice(one time I was in the third row and right smack in front of Larry :))and was amazed by Larry's preformance. He really gives his all on stage. Recently STYX has added A Criminal Mind to the repitore. Yea!!!! |

myself with my own money was Strange Animal. I agree with those who have said that his lyrics are something special... I know I've listened to them (over and over and over) when I've been hurting... I'm afraid I kind of lost touch with his music though - the last tape I bought was The Good Catches Up and I hear he's put out more since then but I hadn't really been paying attention... I just got back into his music, in fact, because my poor little heart got broken and it was definitely a "Gowan" moment. Nice site, thanks. |
